Position Summary: 

Proactively contributes in designing, developing and evolving high quality, usable and extensive Data Modeling solutions. Under supervision, perform ad-hoc and routine tasking.
Working closely with other PRA Group Acquisitions, Underwriters, and Data Engineers, the Data Modeler will engage internal customers at all levels, to assist in the valuation of accounts for acquisition and portfolio strategy, as well as, contribute to new and existing analytical studies. As a member of the enterprise Data and Analytics team, this position will document key protocols, procedures, and system infrastructure as part of an ongoing data stewardship/governance effort of the Data and Analytics team.Key Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

  • Assisting with the creation of automated processes that deliver predictions to internal business partners for use in acquisitions and operations
  • Develop an understanding and working knowledge of all PRA data sources with respect to their data structure and definitions
  • Works with other departments to acquire data necessary for portfolio valuation, analysis, and loading
  • Runs due diligence and scoring models on prospective and owned portfolios
  • Gather source data and perform data preparation / data cleaning for modeling and analysis
  • Employing various tools (SQL, shell, R, Python, etc.) to complete data engineering requests. 
  • Builds models for acquisition of accounts and portfolio strategy
  • Assist in the documentation of new and existing data stores, to assist in the administration and maintenance of the enterprise data governance program.
  • Assist in provide expertise on statistical and mathematical concepts used by the broader analytics team.
  • Assist with advocating, evangelizing, and building data driven solutions to help PRA Group meet our yearly net income goals. 
  • Perform ad hoc data analysis with the use of statistical analysis; machine learning algorithms; or data mining techniques
  • Create monthly time series forecasts of collections for internal business partners
  • Assist in provide expertise on statistical and mathematical concepts used by the broader analytics team.

Supervisory Responsibilities:


Professional Experience/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or related quantitative disciplines
  • 2-4 Year(s) experience in the following:
    • PL/SQL (Oracle)
  • T-SQL (SQL Server 2008 R2, 2012, 2014)
  • GitHub
  • Unix shell
  • R or Python
  • 2-4 year(s) relational database reporting and modeling
  • 2-4 year(s) Agile development
  • Strong analytic skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to effectively juggle multiple development, administrative, and support projects simultaneously.


  • Master’s Degree in Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or related quantitative disciplines.
  • Database:
    • SSMS command line tools
    • HDFS (Hadoop, Hive, Spark, HBase, etc.)
    • PostgreSQL
  • Open Source tools (including, but not limited to):
    • ViM
    • Git
    • Docker
  • Knowledge of consumer collection industry practices

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as the employee works in a collaborative office environment, in an individual work station, using telephone and computer.  Employee may be required to occasionally work evenings and weekends.
